In this class, we will be learning soldering basics and how to apply those basic skills into creating other projects. Soldering isn’t just for making little charms any more!
Class will begin with some demos on smaller soldering projects upon which to practice. From there we will focus on our main project - creating a piece of hanging art. We will begin by applying some art/collage skills to creating an interesting, textured backgrounds to build upon. From there we will apply our soldering skills to create an heirloom piece of art.
Soldered Inheritance kit: $15*sponges *paste flux *foil tape (different sizes), flux remover,
*burnishers,*jump rings,*collage materials,*glass for several projects
Supply list needed for class:*Weller 100 soldering iron (please do not bring crafty or different irons, they don't get as hot as this one.
*soldering stand - ALSO A MUST! i recommend "Pro Stand"
*solder - I use 60/40. It will come on a spool
*small, cheap paint brush to apply flux with
*chunky nail file for smoothing edges
*a few washcloths
*hand towel or place mat to lay over your lap
*old cookie sheet - this is your workstation
*scissors
*glue stick
*small link chain or ribbon to hang project (you can decide how long you want it to be) you can get chain at flea markets, hardware stores, Michael’s, ACMoore
*junkie chain to hang underneath your ornament
*something to dangle from the bottom of your ornament (charm, key)
*(2) focal point images (non-glossy) one for each side of the glass to fit under 2x3 area or use what will come in your kit
*chain nose pliers
*pen or pencil/notepad
IMPORTANT: after purchasing your iron, please unpack it and get it set up, plug it in and turn it on for about 10 minutes or so to let it burn off. this will cut down on us being overwhelmed in class by the smell from the burn off.
